Summary

Becky Bloomwood has returned with her financial problemes——Yes, she is in debt again.

How can she resist to go shopping in New York?

You know, some souvenirs for friends,

some new clothes for interview is just a investment.

And when you shop in a sale, is absolutely saving money.

But she got herself into a big trouble this time,

it ruined her glittering career and her relationship with her boyfriend.

Can She handle all these mess and survive in this disaster?

My thoughts

First of all, I felt a little bit disappointed about Becky in debt again. Why can't she just learn a lesson? She just keep buying things and keep extending her budget limit.

Then what is the purpose to set a limit to herself?

However this book is better than the first one. Because the first book mainly focus on Becky's financial problemes but it  has more plot about her relationship with other people this time. I love the romance between Luke and Becky. Also, Suze is such a best friends to Becky, always supportive and caring.

At last,This story is so inspiring. When you see how Becky get through all the difficulties and find a job which she truely love. It makes you think about your life again and  ask youself if you are doing something you really love. Moreover , it's not easy to confront frustration. But you can learn the courage from Becky. Everyone can break away from plight if they have determination to change.

"I'm going to be independent and strong, and stand on my own two feet."

"His expression is taut and set; he looks as though his face is carved out of stone."

"So I sit there,half-crying,half-laughing,letting a pool of wet tears gather on my skirt and not even bothering to wipe it away."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"And this time I just can't stop the tears from gathering in my eyes and dripping slowly down my face, taking my makeup with them."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"Everywhere I look, girls are feverishly sorting through garments, looking for labels, trying out bags. Their manicured nails are descending on the stuff like the claws of birds of prey and I can't believe quite how fast they're working."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"It's like some weird form of jet lag—you move into another currency and suddenly feel as though you're spending nothing."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"Somewhere in my head I know that dollars are proper money, with a real value. But I mean, look at them. I just can't take them seriously. I've got a whole wodge of them in my purse, and I feel as though I'm carrying around the bank from a Monopoly set."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"I stare at the list, transfixed. I feel like a child trying to choose a sweetie in a chocolate factory. Where am I going to start? How should I do this? Start at the top? Start at the bottom? "

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"Even now, whenever I see his face creasing into a real smile, I feel a bit of a lift inside. Because I know he's not like that with everyone. He's smiling like that because it's me. For me."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"They're a bit expensive—but then, everyone knows you should never skimp on shoes, because you'll hurt your feet."

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

"And once I lined them all up on my bed and took a photograph of them. Which might seem a bit weird—but I thought, I've got loads of photos of people I don't really like, so why not take one of something I really love?"

Summary

Rebecca Bloomwood loves shopping, not just clothing and anything could be her target. But the biggest problem is her income can't affort her expenditure. she went out of control and was in debt. Her life became a mess and she tried to cut back and make more money. But can she control herself and solve the problems?

My thoughts

I have mixed feelings about this book because of the main character- Rebecca Bloomwood. I hate her being annoyed sometimes .However, She is nice and kind.So she is just like a real person, has merits and demerits, doesn't like an imaginary character.

At first, I thought it was just a story about a girl who loves shopping and went out of control. But it is also about grow up, friendships and so on.At the end of the story, it told that run away didn't help with the problem. The only way to solve the problem is to be brave and face it.

In addition, the book is funny. You would laugh when Rebecca has some impracticable thought or  having some excuses to shopping .The personality of Rebecca make the story become more interesting.

Finally, I love the writing style. I appreciate that Sophie apply some metaphor and simile on the book. It makes the feelings become more specific. When I was reading, I understood the character's feelings easily.

"Suddenly my voice doesn't seem to be working properly.I feel as though a wad of cotton's been stuffed into my throat."

Confessions of a Shopaholic

"I want to get out there so desperately, I'm actually leaning forward in my chair, like a plant toward the light. I'm craving the bright lights and warm air, the racks of merchandise, even the bleep of the cash registers."

Confessions of a Shopaholic

"I know friends should be supportive of each other's life decisions and all that."
